If not now when.

We get trapped in our thoughts, feelings, and habits.

Uncertainty and disconnection fill our lives while distractions and comparisons surround us. The recent pandemic has brought more attention to mental health, an area once stigmatized but now important for everyone. These challenges can lead to opportunities for growth.

Post-traumatic growth often follows hardships, filled with issues like unfairness or tragedy. Everyday struggles also provide chances for growth. Defining ourselves by our problems can lead to feelings of defeat. Many feel stuck, waiting for change from others or their circumstances.

Remember, beyond your challenges lie opportunities and communities eager to grow alongside you. Let go of the fears that block the beauty of life.

Exercise for life.

There is a problem. A Solution. A Program. For you.

Exercise and movement positively affect our feelings, actions, and overall well-being. Recent research confirms that the connection between our body, mind, and spirit can help combat anxiety, depression, and despair. By understanding the reasons behind exercise and how to approach it, you'll shift from feeling forced to exercise to wanting to do it.

Today, many struggle with loneliness and uncertainty, often seeking comfort as a way to avoid discomfort. We will show you that regular movement can help you tap into your natural strengths and abilities. This shift will lead to a more connected life, moving forward together and embracing the universal energy that exists within us and the world around us.

We left the New Garden gym, in Boston’s North End, after a lively sparring session, boxing with each other and others. We’d get an orange juice at the corner store and we agreed it was the best OJ we’ve ever had. One of us would say that each time it seemed. Then we realized it wasn’t just the juice, it was us— we were high from the intensity and movement. A few years later, I also felt this, and even more so when I left my karate school in Eastie, East Boston. We’d train for two and a half hours and spar or do partnership techniques near the end of the class. I’d walk out of there light on my feet, right in my thinking and aware of myself and my environment. Just feeling pissah, as we say in Southie!

As I chased and studied this feeling for years, I found that science backed this up. Barbara Fredrikson and others from Boston University had done remarkable studies (2018) that showed movement, mindfulness, and present moment awareness led to higher levels of optimism, resilience, and social connection.

I’ve come to believe that movement creates the environment and present moment awareness, which along with engagement, are keys to life satisfaction. We will show you how we’ve done it with some anecdotal stories and follow that with some empirical scientific studies that support each of the twelve steps to living your life of potential and purpose versus a life of avoidance and distraction! We’ll also refer to experts, books, institutions, and regular folks like ourselves who share their lived experiences with us.

Positive actions create positive feelings, allowing us to observe and engage in a life we shape. Understanding the power of connection and community awakens our inner energy, helping us grow. This inner inspiration spreads to others. When we pursue our potential, we attract like-minded people, leading to new awareness and insights. It opens us to life's possibilities and helps us build relationships with purpose and passion. From this point, our life design evolves, guiding us toward our best selves and away from past struggles.

To truly change and grow, we must first recognize our current situation. This present moment awareness is crucial and forms the basis for all other practices. We evaluate where we are, often using exercise as a model for improvement in other life areas.

Moving our bodies activates our minds and emotions. Research, such as a 2015 study by Daniel Lorenz and Scot Morrison, supports this idea and aligns with my years of experience. This assessment helps us create plans based on data, following a structured training model. Training, along with its disciplines, forms the foundation for a fulfilling life. Life unfolds in the moment, is experienced daily, balanced weekly, and recorded monthly. By engaging in practices that raise our awareness, we turn these unconscious actions into our everyday way of living, utilizing systems and environments that enhance our lives.
