This is certainly the case with fitness. If you don’t “change it up” you will see your results peter out; it’s called the law of diminishing returns. Your body adapts to the stress (i.e. weights, running etc.) and your results diminish as time goes on. What to do? – Change it up!
Repetitive workouts, week in and week out, lead to increased boredom with fitness and an increased likelihood to call it quits. We do our best to educate our clients in the periodization of training – simply said breaking the year into periods of time where you change your activities and focus. A benefit is that as the seasons change so do our activities so we change it up and match it up! That keeps it fresh for our bodies and for our minds.
With the start of the summer, now is a great time to plan and focus on increasing your cardio. Running, walking, biking and even swimming all will have a great effect of changing your body for the better. Then there is fun and games also. Play some Basketball, tennis or whatever helps you relive your glory days. If you really want a structured plan try one of our 4 week, 4 days a week bootcamps. We've seen the best results with our bootcamps and we have one starting up on Monday June 3rd (Call the Gym to Sign up!).
Another Simple way to avoid these diminishing returns with your workouts is to change up the sets and weights in your lifting regiments. Sets, Reps, and Recovery time are THE three important keys to an efficient regiment. Whether you want to add strength, tone you muscles, or lose weight, there are important and specific guidelines to follow for each intended outcome.
